the ajjancy’s debut album: to be arranged

All of the great artists of the classic rock era got their start doing cover tunes, in many cases with innovative versions that defied the rules and expanded the possibilities of the genre. Gen-X artist the ajjancy’s debut album of 7 tracks, entitled To Be Arranged, recaptures that spirit, with radical reinterpretations of classic pop and rock tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. Avoiding straightforward remakes deliberately, the ajjancy aims for surprise by mashing up radically different tunes with similar underlying chords structures and rhythms to offer a fresh take on well-known songs. This album pays homage to those seminal artists with a nod to their ethos of experimentation that made rock "classic" and "progressive" in the first place.

about the ajjancy

"Why do happy people make sad music?"

the ajjancy, moniker of the NJ-native singer/songwriter George Ajjan, whose non-musical alter-ego jets around the globe navigating the corridors of power, tackles recurring Gen-X themes of parenthood, love and loss, and seeking hope in an increasingly desperate political climate, always tempering the melancholic with a indefatigable glimmer of optimism.

Backed by cast of session pros including Fernando Perdomo on guitar, Dan Feiszli on bass, Matt Lebofsky on keyboards, and Terry Branam on drums, the ajjancy cooks a chamber-rock stew based on melodic pop with unexpected chord changes, spiced up by the occasional odd time signature, then garnished with layers of lush instrumental parts and vocal harmonies. Drawing on a wide range of pop, rock, and classical idioms, he always aims to put the integrity of the song first - the gods of form be damned.
